DRUGS, DISEASE, ILLNESS, DOCTORS, & ADDICTION
Cholera and consumption were plagues of Regency society. Overcrowding, poverty, and the lack of good sanitary practices lead to the spread of these diseases.
Other ailments such as gout and distemper were conditions for people of all classes to bear.
Physicians and surgeons set out to cure the ill. Physicians healed with drugs. Surgeons healed by manual labors such as surgery.
Pills, poultices, powders, and herbs were used to cure all that ailed.
